flag fall charges goes down while drop charges go up for Nadi International Airport Taxis from Friday

Good news for people taking a taxi from the Nadi International Airport as there will be a significant reduction in the flag fall charges and an increase in the drop charges from this Friday.

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission says they have completed the review of fares for Nadi International Airport Taxis where the flag fall charge per hire will reduce from a maximum of $7.10 to $5, the drop charge per 100 meters will go up from to 10 cents to 15 cents while the waiting charge per 1 minute will remain 18 cents.

FCCC says taxi service authorised fares and charges for all airport taxis in Fiji excluding Nadi International Airport taxis in Fiji remains unchanged.

They say with Nadi International Airport being a key entry point for international and domestic tourists in Fiji, the reduction in the flag fall charge is expected to make airport taxis more attractive to both locals and visitors, particularly for short trips.

The Commission says since in the past, the high starting rate discouraged local use for short journeys.

FCCC says they are committed to ensuring that taxi fares are fair and sustainable for the industry, and affordable for consumers.

They say the new fares reflect this commitment while also enhancing the competitiveness of Nadi International Airport Taxis.

FCCC says taxi fares are regulated under the FCCC (Control of Fares and Charges for Public Service Vehicles) Order 2023 and as such, FCCC has determined the new taxi fares through its independent assessment of the necessary financial information and industry insights provided by the Nadi International Airport Taxi Association and other relevant stakeholders.

They say determining the appropriate fares was a matter of national interest, requiring thorough consideration and could not be rushed through and adds that FCCC is always committed to ensuring that taxi fares are fair, sustainable for the industry, and affordable for consumers.
