Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar says when women earn, they do not benefit alone as their families and communities benefit as well.

Akbar highlighted this while handing over kitchen utensils to the Naqeledamu Women’s Group.

She says women have also re-invested their income into the well being of their families.

Akbar says too many times women are undermined but the women receiving these utensils are potential entrepreneurs who are equipped to make their own money.

She says this assistance will not only allow the women’s group to be able to provide catering with greater confidence during community events, but will allow the women of the Naqeledamu and Naliga communities to diversify their income generating methods and be economically independent to support their families.

Akbar says Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama had made a commitment to support this project in the 2021/2022 budget allocation.

She says the women’s group actively participates in the group activities and are usually entrusted to cater for the large community gathering and the request for kitchen utensils worth $5,241.74 had been made and the government is happy to help with.
