Acting Minister for Economy and Minister for Commerce and Trade Faiyaz Koya.

Acting Minister for Economy and Minister for Commerce and Trade Faiyaz Koya says they would not have achieved the near-decade of consecutive economic growth with unqualified people.

While speaking on the Examination of Audit Reports of Government Ministries and Departments for the year ended 31st July 2016 Koya says the opposition is saying that the civil servants are unqualified and incompetent.

Koya further says this is a shame on the opposition adding the unqualified people they are talking about are probably the remnants of what's leftover from when the opposition was in government.

He says over the last five years the Attorney General has been telling the opposition about the reforms that they have undertaken in modernising the civil service.

He also questioned as to where does NFP Leader Professor Biman Prasad get his figures from when he talks about wastage.

Koya further says that despite these extraordinarily difficult times when there is no income from tourism, there has not been a pay cut for civil servants.

He also says no one in the civil service today is paid less than $10,000.
