Permanent Secretary for Health, Dr. James Fong

We seek to establish an effective crisis management system through innovation in infectious disease management governance and policy coordination.

Permanent Secretary for Health, Dr. James Fong stated this at the Capacity Building Training for Disease Surveillance and Response in Fiji with The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) adding this will enable us to be better prepared to face any unexpected spread of infection and other health crisis.

Dr. Fong says we also aspire to activate a global public cooperation system working hand in hand with international partners to respond effectively to health emergencies much as we are seeing today.

He further says KOICA is bringing in international partners to work with us to help strengthen our public health system.

The Permanent Secretary says through training we will learn the early detection system and operation methods for crisis situations, integrated monitoring and information analysis of infectious disease.

He further says this will be the core of our preparedness efforts ensuring that we are equipped to detect and respond properly to potential outbreaks.

Dr. Fong says the program is designed to increase the knowledge, skills and capabilities of our healthcare professionals, public health officials, and relevant stakeholders involved in disease surveillance and response centres.

He further says we aim to empower our first responders in the front line such that we can ensure swift effective response to any crisis that may arise.
