We need to raise our voices against the darkness of gender-based violence and declare our commitment to ending violence against women and girls in Fiji.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka highlighted this while delivering his message on the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign.

The Prime Minister says it is vital to take out moment to remember lives that we have tragically lost and honor the ones who have survived.

Rabuka says gender-based violence is not just about human rights, it is a crime under the laws of Fiji, and it is a crime that will not be tolerated nor condemned.

He says there is also a need for engagement with communities and emphasis on educating boys and men about respectful relationships and equality.

He further says violence is a stain on our communities that must be eradicated from every corner of our Vanua, the call to action is crystal clear, and we must unite to dismantle the norms and traditions that perpetuate gender discrimination. He says Fiji is committed to ensuring that effective implementation of the Fiji National Action Plan to prevent violence against all women and girls set to roll in January next year while the national helpline, police and the justice system also play pivotal roles in addressing this issue.
