Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar is calling for a coordinated effort to bring those children back to school who are selling pastries and other food items on the streets.

We have witnessed primary school aged children selling roti parcels and pastries outside major shopping outlets and even on the road during and after school hours as well as late in the night.

Akbar has told parliament that she picked five boys from the streets and helped them to get into schools but her efforts have proved futile as the children have come back to the streets.

She says they will not give up and now go to the villages and meet their parents to find solutions.

Akbar made these comments while deliberating on the motion for Parliament to agree to ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography.
