Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua

Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua has given a stern warning to those people involved in the drug business that mercy will not be shown to them as they are killing our people and our children.

While responding to a question from Opposition MP, Naisa Tuinaceva if Fiji has drug cartels that control the promotion and distribution of narcotic drugs, Tikoduadua says there are those that are involved in these operations in the country, and this has been going on for a while as he has earlier stated.

He says the government and the whole nation are doing their best with the resources we have to curtail this and bring this people to justice.

The Minister adds the responsibility of the curtailment of drugs is everyone’s responsibility.

When questioned by FijiFirst MP Faiyaz Koya if the Minister will be issuing a statement condemning the recent media report from New Zealand about the drug situation in Fiji, Tikoduadua says he thinks some of the information that the reporter has shared has been exaggerated and may have also been misled by a lot of people.

He says he appreciates the mischievous reporting that brings to light the nation's drug situation, and he is not shying away from this because it is speaking about the issues that affect us.

The Minister also assured everyone that Fiji is still a safe destination for tourists and visitors as there are independent institutions that protect the rights of everyone, including the tourists.
