The Water Authority of Fiji operations teams are carrying out flushing works to progressively restore water supply to Fijians experiencing disruptions in the Suva-Nausori corridor.

WAF Chief Operating Officer, Seru Soderberg says they are starting to slowly recover water levels to their main distribution system supplied through the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant.

He says raw water inflow into the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant is increasingly susceptible to climate variability.

He also says the flow had dropped due to falling river levels over the past few days and has now improved.

This has improved the Tamavua Reservoir levels.

He hopes that with most reservoirs at desired levels, they can meet this morning's peak demand.

The areas that were affected include Wrong Turn, Sakoca, Upper Khalsa, Tacirua Heights, Nagatugatu residents next to Reservoir, Tamavua Koro, Upper Ragg, Deovji Street, Tacirua Bus, Amputch Street, Princes Road, Dokanaisuva - Seventh Day Church Dokanaisuva to Tacirua Fijian School, Vunuleba Settlement.

Low Pressure to No Water – All feeding from Tamavua Reservoir, Nailuva, Qauia Street, Togalevu, Namadi Heights, Rewa Street, Navikinikini Settlement, Upper Tuisowaqa, Mika Dreu, Pathik Crescent, Ratu Sukuna, Delainavesi, Panaromic, Uduya Point, Waiqanake, Osonabukete, Beniveli, Princes Road, Elevated areas along Princes Road - including Upper Bureta and Upper Samabula Areas.

High elevated areas of Ratu Sukuna Road, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Muanikau Road, Laucala Bay Road, McGregor Road, Domain Road, Victoria Parade from Sukuna Park to Nasese, Amy Street, Johnson Street, Spring Street, High Street, Stewart Street, Brown Street.

Soderberg also says the planned works for the Waila Treatment Plant from 5pm to 8pm today will only affect those supplied by the Waila Treatment Plant.

The Waila Treatment Plant supplies water to about 60 percent of the population in Suva.

He says repair works at Waila on the burst main that disrupted customers from Waila Water Treatment Plant Road to Navuso was also completed, and supply was restored to these customers.

If you are living in the Greater Suva Nausori Area, please store water, as the Water Authority of Fiji will be shutting down the Waila Water Treatment Plant from 5pm to 8pm today.

WAF says this is a planned water shutdown, and during this period people will experience disruptions to their water supply ranging from low pressure to no supply at all.

They say these works are critical as the existing 2 x 1.5MVa transformers are over 30 years old and now past their design life, increasing the likelihood of failure, which would cause a widespread shutdown should if they continue to be operated.

The Authority says the first phase, which took place on the 20th of January, consists of the connection of a 2 x 2MVa Temporary transformer, while the second phase, which is scheduled today, will include the connection and commissioning of the new permanent transformers.

WAF is reminding Fijians that water will not be restored immediately after the work is completed but will gradually be restored as works on re-filling reservoirs and re-pressuring the system will take time.

They are also advising people to store enough water that can last them for 2 to 3 days and ensure to use of water wisely during this temporary disruption period.
