Residents living in the elevated areas in Samabula such as Nayau Street, Upper Bureta, Lakeba, Votua and Bureta can expect water supply to be restored by this evening while supply for those living in Dokanaisuva, Colo-i-Suva, Upper Delainavesi and other elevated parts of Lami is expected to be restored progressively by tomorrow morning.

Water Authority of Fiji Chief Operating Officer, Seru Soderberg says they are currently restoring supply to the Suva to Nausori and the Navua area that were affected by low water levels at the source as there has not been good rainfall in about a week that would replenish these rivers.

Soderberg says the levels have dropped to a point where the pumps are starting to trip because of very low levels.

He says the pumps are programmed in such a way that it will trip off when there is low levels and it will come back on when the levels are back to safe operating levels and that affects the production.

Soderberg says they have been able to recover the system in the Suva to Nausori corridor and are currently doing restoration works in the upper Samabula area while they are also working on restoring supply to elevated areas such as Dokanaisuva and Colo-i-Suva.

Soderberg is urging people to store water when they get the supply in case there is an issue with production because of low levels at the sources.

The Chief Operating Officer says at the moment they are not at normal operations because of the dry spell we are currently going through and corresponding low levels at the source.

Soderberg adds the outlook from the Weather Office for the next seven days is generally fine weather, some cloudy periods to be experienced only in the afternoon and there is no forecast for significant rain events in the coming days.
