Wallabies to miss a few key players for RWC opener against Georgia

The Wallabies is set to miss a few of their key players in the opening round of the 2023 Rugby World Cup against Georgia in France with veteran prop James Slipper one of those in the list.

The former Wallabies captain is battling a tendon issue in his foot that has seen him wearing a moon boot over the past week.

Coach Eddie Jones has confirmed that the prop will be back after the first round and adds they have it under control.

Slipper is joined by Melbourne Rebels prop Pone Fa’amausili, hooker Jordan Uelese and star centre Samu Kerevi on the injury list and are in doubt for their opener.

Tom Hooper and Rob Leota are also on the doubt list but Jones is confident there are players in the team that can provide cover.

Teenage sensation Max Jorgensen and fullback Andrew Kellaway were seen to be fully training with the team after recovering from their injuries.

Jones says it is just a matter of good rehab, good recovery and getting the players back on the field as quickly as they can.

The Wallabies have settled in well at their base in Saint-Etienne and Jones says there is a mix of excitement and apprehension in the team but they are looking forward to kicking off their RWC campaign.

The Wallabies will play Georgia next Sunday at 4am in their RWC opener.

They will play the Flying Fijians on the 18th of this month at 3.45am.

The RWC kicks off next Saturday with the first game between hosts France and the All Blacks at 7.15am.
