Walking for almost two kilometres to get to Daviqele Village to access health care services and school is now a thing of the past for the residents of Tabanasa Settlement in Nabukelevu, Kadavu after the opening of a new community access road.

Am emotional 69-year-old Joji Ratulevu of Tabanasa says after seeing the relief the new road has brought them, landowners have agreed for government to further develop areas for future roadways.

The Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Inia Seruiratu says the project will encourage villagers to increase agricultural production yields for farmers with access to the market in Vunisea.

The roadway was funded under the Ministry’s Community Access Road, Footpath and Footbridges Programme to provide safe and proper access to people in the area with a cost of over $19,000.

Seruiratu is currently on a 3-day tour on Kadavu Island where he will visit various ongoing projects and commission the opening of completed projects.
