International Childhood Cancer Day, Childhood Cancer International which includes Walk On Walk Strong (WOWS) Kids Fiji and International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) are joining forces to launch a global three-year campaign.

The theme for 2024 is "Equal Access To Care: Unveiling Challenges".

This initiative aims to address the unique challenges and inequalities faced by children and adolescents with cancer, as well as their families.

Throughout this campaign, the objective is not only to raise awareness but also to identify challenges and inequities in childhood cancer treatment.

WOWS Kids Fiji is excited about this new global campaign which means a lot more meaningful ground work for them as the NGO that provides direct support for children diagnosed and living with childhood cancer in Fiji.

They say this campaign provides WOWS with a framework that they can tailor make to suit the unique needs here in Fiji. WOWS says it is committed to strengthening its partnership with the Ministry of Health by filling the gaps in the healthcare systems to support the work of the Paediatric Oncology Units; foster the support networks for the patients and their families and effectively create and raise awareness of childhood cancer in Fiji.

This month and throughout the year, WOWS will be talking with patients, survivors, parents, caregivers and health care professionals to unveil the challenges and inequalities surrounding the landscape of childhood cancer care in Fiji.

While unveiling these childhood cancer care challenges, they also want to highlight the importance of community participation and support in addressing these challenges and identifying sustainable solutions for them.

This week, they are meeting the CWMH Paediatric Oncology Ward team and doing a site visit at key support departments. They call on everyone in Fiji to follow WOWS Kids Fiji on Facebook and Instagram to stay updated on our childhood cancer awareness initiatives and share them online or visit the website on www.wowskids.org for more information.

You can always call them on 8035657 or 7370147 to discuss how you can be a part of the journey in fighting against childhood cancer in Fiji.
