As thousands of Fijians are facing water supply disruptions along the Lami-Suva-Nausori corridor due to low water levels at the sources, the Water Authority of Fiji is losing 46 percent of treated water because of leaking pipes.

WAF Chief Operating Officer, Seru Soderberg says with current water supply issues from the source, they are now pouring all their resources into fixing the leaks.

He says they have pooled in most of their resources to carry out the repairs to help trying to save enough water to supply to customers.

Soderberg further says they are doing daily gauging and the river level is still dropping compared to yesterday’s level.

He says some water sources are at a critical level and some are approaching the critical level.

They are working on plans if there is going to be a need for water rationing but they will have to put out their messaging first to clearly articulate the areas that will be having water rationing and the times.

Soderberg says based on the projections from the Fiji Meteorological Office, they will continue to build coffer dams to try and retain as much of the river flow as possible to pump into treatment plants to supply to the customers.

Water usage for car washing, watering of plants and gardens, irrigation of new turf, topping up of swimming pools and washing of hard surfaces like driveways and footpaths is prohibited during this dry spell.
