WAF is still conducting technical testing at the Viria Water Project – Ro Filipe

Fijians living in the Suva Nausori corridor will have to wait longer and continue to face water disruption as the Water Authority of Fiji is still conducting technical testing at the new Viria Water Project.

This was confirmed by the Minister for Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau.

The project which was supposed to come online in July last year, was moved to October.

As of now, nothing has come online.

Ro Filipe has also not confirmed when the Viria Water Project will come online.

While WAF is still conducting their tests, families are being affected, and many villages in the Tailevu Province have been without a permanent supply of water since colonial days.

43-year-old Hem Chand of Wrong Turn Place in Sakoca says his family has been facing water issues for the past 24 years, and nothing has been done by the past 2 governments.

Chand hopes the coalition government will work harder and restore water because people are still paying their bills, even though there is no water in their area.

Timaima Tokalauvere of Sakoca says they have changed their way of living to suit the time when they have water in their area.

The 38-year-old says WAF should not forget them as the water tanks they have left for them are now breeding areas for mosquitoes and are not safe to store water.
