The Water Authority of Fiji has determined that majority of the sections of the wastewater pipe at Kings Road near the 4-miles bridge has collapsed and is no longer safe.

The Authority says they are working with the Fiji Roads Authority to replace the entire section with approximately 24 metres of steel pipe.

WAF say conditions on-site are complicated as teams are required to safely navigate around buried utility services which are laid above the collapsed wastewater trunk main.

They say eight bailing trucks have been engaged to temporarily divert wastewater from nearby wastewater pumping stations as well as the repair site.

Motorists are being advised that the urgent replacement works will affect both the Suva and Nausori bound lanes.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Roads Authority say they are working to repair the sinkhole and are aiming to open both lanes by 4am on Monday.
