The Vusu Raiders Rugby League Club has condemned the alleged assault by the bouncers on their players outside of a Suva nightclub early yesterday morning and is calling on de-escalation of tensions on social media or other platforms.

The club, in a statement says what began as an attempt by their players to rescue their teammates from being assaulted by bouncers tragically escalated into a violent confrontation.

The Vusu Raiders say they are appalled by the excessive force employed by the bouncers, who allegedly used timber and stool to attack their players.

The club says while they acknowledge that some players may have been under the influence of alcohol, they believe that the situation could have been resolved through reasonable and non-violent measures.

They say such aggressive actions are unwarranted and unacceptable and is contrary to the principles of de-escalation and public safety.

The Vusu Raiders have also acknowledged the Fiji Police Force for their swift response and reassurance that justice will prevail and say that they fully trust in their investigation and call for accountability from all parties involved.

A bouncer remains on police custody as investigations continue.

The club further says that while emotions may be high, they respectfully request that individuals refrain from escalating tensions or promoting retaliation on social media or other platforms.

They urge everyone to allow the law to take its course and trust in the justice system to address this matter appropriately.

They say amid these challenges, they also take pride in celebrating the players' accomplishments.

They say last Saturday marked their Annual Awards Night, where they acknowledged and rewarded the hard work and dedication of the players throughout the 2024 season.

The club says the event was an opportunity to thank the players for their resilience and commitment, which has been instrumental in making this season a success for them.

The Vusu Raiders say they remain dedicated to their mission of grooming young talent and providing pathways for players to succeed both on and off the field.

They add they will continue to foster discipline, respect, and excellence, ensuring that rugby league remains a source of pride and opportunity for the community.
