Residents of Vuci South in Nausori have committed to report any issue regarding drugs to the Police after people were caught allegedly possessing methamphetamine, marijuana and syringes in the area and students have been found with drugs in school.

District Advisory Councillor Kamlesh Mohan says they have formed a Crime Committee to look into this to help keep the community safe and peaceful.

Mohan says the Police have been doing their duty and arresting people but they need to be taking responsibility for their community as well.

The Advisory Councillor says he has noted that young children who are travelling from as far as Vusia, Nanuku and Naduru have been fishing late at night.

Mohan says they have been seeing raids happening in places that they never imagined so they are urging people to call the police as soon as they see something suspicious.

He is urging parents to wake up and talk to their children every day about the negative impacts of drug use.

The Advisory Councillor says parents have a greater responsibility now to ensure the safety of their children and check their bags when they come back from school as drugs are being found in schools as well.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations Livai Driu says numerous arrests have been made in the area.

He says the majority of the arrests are through intelligence gathering as well as the sharing of information from members of the public, which has been encouraging, and this is one of the most effective means of prevention measures.

ACP Driu adds the establishment of the Crime Committee is applauded, and the Eastern Division team will be working closely with the members.
