The residents of Valelevu HART Nursing Home now have a safer and more comfortable living space as BSP Financial Group (Fiji) Pte Limited has completed refurbishment work.

BSP says the residential block had fallen into a state of disrepair, creating an uncomfortable environment for the elderly residents.

They say recognising the urgent need for renovations, BSP’s Corporate and Business Banking team stepped in to undertake reparation works with staff also volunteering their time to complete the project.

While speaking at the official handover ceremony, BSP General Manager Corporate and Business Banking, Maikash Ali, says one of the key pillars of the bank is that they care for the community.

He says every year, they dedicate funds for staff-led projects such as these, where their staff actively volunteer their time and effort to work on projects that make a real difference to the community.

The initiative included the renovation of an entire wing of the nursing home, which involved tiling floors, repainting walls inside and out and repairing broken amenities.

BSP says the matron pointed out that there had been thefts from the home and residents.

They say to address this issue, the BSP team also installed grills on the windows and solar lights to improve security for the residents.

Ali says these residents once contributed to the nation’s growth and now, in their twilight years, they deserve to live in a secure and comfortable environment.

He says they are proud to have played a role in improving their quality of life.

HART Chief Executive Officer, Paserio Furivai, expressed deep gratitude to BSP, noting that the bank’s support to HART has been long standing.

He says BSP demonstrates a unique working partnership in their community projects — BSP not only funds projects, but their staff personally get involved, which speaks volumes about their values and commitment to community.

Furivai says the new look of the nursing home is brighter, safer and more conducive to the well-being of the elderly residents.

He says the Valelevu HART Nursing Home currently houses 26 senior citizens, many of whom do not have any connections with their families.

Furivai says this facility has seen many elders pass through its doors—some have reconnected with their families, while for others, it has been their final home.

He says they remain committed to providing hope, dignity and care to those in need, and with partners like BSP, they can continue to do so.

HART supports 850 families with a combined population of about 3,000.

BSP says over the years, BSP has also funded the Vesivesi HART Kindergarten empowering families there to give their children a solid early childhood education and providing a dedicated space for after-school study programs and recently, funded the Wainibuku HART Primary School playground and undertook school reparation works.
