Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Infrastructure and Meteorological Services Jone Usamate says they are working together with the National Disaster Management Office to ensure all communities in Fiji are Tsunami Ready by 2030 and this will be guided by the National Tsunami Response Plan.

While launching the World Tsunami Awareness Day, Usamate says they are also embarking on developing Fiji's National Earthquake Response Plan.

He says there is ongoing collaborative works carried out by relevant stakeholders including the Mineral Resources Department, on Tsunami awareness particularly to the vulnerable communities with more focus on gender equality and social inclusion.

Usamate says they recognize the support from key partners such as UNDP through its Tsunami Project that have strengthened school tsunami preparedness.

Meanwhile, the Japanese Ambassador to Fiji Kawami Fumihiro says the government of Japan has provided the equipment for Tsunami readings and through JICA they have done awareness programs around the country.

He says they are ready to provide further support to Fiji if the need arises.

The launch also saw Ashley Raj winning the Tsunami Poster Awareness competition while Neumi Raitekiteki won the Tsunami Awareness Video competition.
