Urgent traffic measures required for Wainivula Rd, Khalsa Rd & Rishikul junction

With extreme traffic congestion impacting residents along the Suva-Nausori corridor, Wainivula Road, the junction near Rishikul Sanatan College in Valelevu and Khalsa Road via Princes Road have been identified as high-traffic areas, requiring immediate intervention.

The Traffic Congestion Taskforce, during recent consultations, flagged these locations as priority areas for traffic management improvements.

In response, the Ministry of Public Works, the Land Transport Authority, the Fiji Roads Authority, and the Fiji Police Force are taking decisive action to tackle the growing congestion issues in Fiji’s Central Division.

Assistant Minister for Public Works, Naisa Tuinaceva stressed the importance of strict compliance with traffic regulations, particularly at key junctions and bus bays, where illegal parking and accidents cause unnecessary delays.

He says enhanced enforcement would significantly improve traffic efficiency and road safety.

Tuinaceva urges people to ease congestion by prioritising main roads over secondary and residential routes, reducing non-essential morning travel during peak hours and opting for public transportation to limit private vehicle numbers.

He adds that these small changes in travel habits could collectively lead to a smoother experience, improved safety and reduced congestion.
