Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Sakiasi Ditoka

Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Sakiasi Ditoka is concerned about the growing intersection between HIV transmission and the use of illicit drugs as it threatens the health and well-being of youths living in rural and maritime communities.

Ditoka highlighted this while responding to President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu’s opening address in Parliament, and he further emphasized that HIV is not just a health issue but a societal challenge that requires a collective response from all sectors.

He says it is a concern for every Fijian, whether they live in urban areas, remote rural areas or maritime islands.

He adds that government officials should ensure that awareness campaigns and healthcare services are not confined to urban areas.

Ditoka says these services must reach every village and island where misinformation, stigma and a lack of medical facilities have made the situation more challenging.

The Minister also spoke about the importance of unity, integrity, and responsible leadership in national development, particularly in rural and maritime islands.

He further emphasized the need for good governance, transparency, and constructive discourse rather than political division.
