Fijians should expect ongoing progress in the coming weeks on the Suva Bus Stand as development continues with the excavation and removal of the existing base material.

The Fiji Roads Authority says this process involves excavating the deteriorated pavement structure to a depth determined by geotechnical investigations, hauling the removed material off-site, and replacing it with premium pavement material, which will be levelled and compacted to specification.

Suva City Council Acting CEO Tevita Boseiwaqa says the project aims to address flooding, traffic congestion, potholes, uneven surfaces, and drainage issues at the bus stand.

He says that once completed, the Suva Bus Stand will better accommodate the growing public transport needs in the capital.

Boseiwaqa adds that public safety and well-being remain their top priorities and urges everyone to exercise caution and follow signs during the temporary closure.

He also assures the public that their concerns are being heard and that solutions are being delivered.

Works are expected to finish in a months time.
