Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem has stressed that people should update their voter cards from green to blue to save the hassle on election day.

Saneem highlighted this during the fijivillage Straight Talk With CFL News Director, Vijay Narayan.

He says the reasons why people need to change their card is because the voter card has their recent photo and the new card will have the venue of their polling station.

Saneem says that means that if you are registered to vote at a particular school, you cannot vote in any part of Fiji except that school.

He says it is necessary that people change their card so the Elections Office gets your latest photograph and they can identify you with the voter list without any hassle.

When questioned by Narayan on what happens to people who turn up with their green card on election day, Saneem says this is an invalid ID but they will still be able to see the photo and ask questions and they will be allowed to vote.

Saneem says if they just upgrade to the new voter card, they will have no hassle.

The Supervisor says expiring the voter cards was necessary to re-engage voters.

He then said that if you turn up with your green voter card but you turn up to the right polling station, and they can see your photo, they will ask you a few questions and you will be allowed to vote.

Saneem says it is not that you will be turned away to go home.

He says the trick is to turn up at the right polling station.

However he strongly encourages that people upgrade their voter card from green to blue.
