USP Council resolves to offer new contract to Professor Pal Ahluwalia as the VC of USP

The Council of the University of the South Pacific has resolved to to offer a new contract to Professor Pal Ahluwalia as the Vice-Chancellor and President of the USP.

The USP Council has also resolved that Professor Ahluwalia will be based at the USP Samoa Campus and will be offered a contract for a 3-year term with a subsequent option for the Council to extend the contract for a further 2 years.

It has further stated the operation of the Vice Chancellor’s new work arrangement including location outside of the Laucala Campus, will be monitored for feasibility and practicality, and formally reviewed no later than 6 months by an independent body.

The USP Council has further resolved that Professor Ahluwalia be subject to annual performance reviews in line with his contract and job description, by the Review Committee for the Annual Performance.

It says in the event an office holder, appointed by the Council, loses his or her work permit, the Council shall determine whether or not his or her employment can be continued from another location.

The Council has agreed that the Deputy Pro-Chancellor, Professor Pat Walsh will lead the process of formalising the new contract for Professor Ahluwalia at a Special Executive Committee meeting.

The Council has extended the appointment of Dr Giulio Masasso Tu'ikolongahau Paunga as Acting Vice-Chancellor and President until Professor Ahluwalia’s new contract is finalised.
