Washington DC

A journalist with the Washington Post has rejected claims by the White House that protesters in Washington DC were given three verbal warnings by police before tear gas was released.

Rebecca Tan said in a tweet that she was standing at the metal barriers with rows of other protesters behind and did not hear a single warning.

Tan added that she could make out that police were saying something but the words were inaudible - hard to imagine that the hundreds of chanting protesters heard the warnings.

Earlier today, law enforcement in Washington dispersed a peaceful protest with tear gas and rubber bullets at a park next to the White House, as the US President Donald Trump vowed to deploy troops, if necessary, to dominate the streets.

Moments later Trump walked out of the executive mansion to a nearby historic church, where he held up a Bible.

Trump has vowed to deploy the US military to quell the civil disorder on America's streets.

According to BBC, President Trump addressed reporters in Washington DC and promised a military response to the rioting and looting seen in the US.

Earlier, he had told state governors they must dominate protests and called on law enforcement to get much tougher.

Trump says if a city or state refuses to take the actions that are necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then he will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them.

He says they cannot allow the righteous cries of peaceful protesters to be drowned out by an angry mob.

Tiger Woods

US golfer Tiger Woods has taken to twitter to say we don't need to burn our neighbourhoods.

He twitted that we can make our points without burning the very neighborhoods we live in.

Woods also says he has always had the utmost respect for law enforcement - this shocking tragedy clearly crossed that line.

George Floyd

George Floyd was arrested by Minneapolis police on Monday and died while being restrained by officers.

Video footage of the arrest showed officers restraining Floyd on the ground with one officer, Derek Chauvin, with his knee on Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in total.

Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter and was fired by the department along with three other officers.

George Floyd's death has been declared a homicide following an official post-mortem examination.

Several cities, including Minneapolis, Washington DC and New York, are under curfew since Monday night.

The fired police officer who has been charged with murdering Floyd will face a court next week.

George Floyd's brother Terrence has appealed for protesters to find a peaceful way forward.
