In an effort to support Fiji to combat the surge in COVID-19 cases, the United Nations World Food Programme and the World Health Organization has provided 15,000kg of medical supplies.

They have provided 75 oxygen concentrators and accessories, 1000 pulse oximeters, 100,000 gowns and 100,000 N95 masks.

Permanent Secretary for Health, Dr James Fong says these supplies have arrived at just the right moment to provide a critical boost to their arsenal as they face the biggest battle yet against this virus.

He says true friends are those who stand by you when times are tough.

Director of World Food Programme Pacific Multi-Country Office, Jo Pilgrim says with the spread of the Delta variant in Fiji, it is crucial now more than ever to strengthen their collective response and support healthcare workers on the frontlines of this crisis.

WHO’s Acting Representative to the South Pacific, Dr Akeem Ali says at a time like this, they cannot afford a single delay in getting medical supplies into Fiji.
