The U. S. Ambassador to Fiji, Marie Damour today launched the new cohort for 2022-2024 Youth Council members. Damour says the Embassy will look forward to the impact the members would have on the U. S. Embassy’s youth engagement and shaping the initiative and programs that will reflect their priorities and concerns.

She also commended the inauguration of the 2020-2022 Embassy Youth Council cohort as they persevered against the limitations imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Damour adds the council found meaningful ways to improve the lives of Pacific Island youths through talanoa sessions whereby they reached 20,000 young people and gave them social support during the pandemic.

Nafitalai Uluinikorotabu, a representative of the Embassy Youth Council, had an accident in 2005 which made him depressed and he is thankful for his support system for making him realize that the wheelchair is not the end.

Uluinikorotabu says he is lucky to be the voice of people with disabilities as he will bring up issues that people with disabilities face.
