Mistakes will be made and the challenges will be constant, but the test of a great leader is how you respond to the challenges that you are presented with and how you choose to move forward.

This was highlighted by the Attorney General Siromi Turaga while officiating at the investiture of 138 Natabua High School prefects.

He says as student leaders are tasked with assisting their teachers in ensuring that school rules, processes and procedures are not only followed but also respected.

Turaga says they are also tasked with the vital role of ensuring that discipline is not only upheld but also maintained and occasions may arise where teachers may not be present and prefects will be required to exercise their judgment.

The Attorney General says when moments of difficulty arise, remain steadfast in the knowledge that no leader ever became great without facing some adversity.

He says leaders lead by example and other students will emulate the leader’s actions and words so before they say or do anything.

Turaga has challenged the student leaders to ask themselves, ‘is this what a leader would say or do?’

He says by doing this, the prefects will earn the trust and respect of their peers and teachers, and who knows, their actions and words may inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more and if the prefects have been able to achieve this, then they have indeed achieved their goal of being a true leader.

The Attorney General acknowledged the teachers and reassured them the coalition government is here to assist in whatever way they can and should it be warranted, their doors are always open to discuss any matters that the teachers may be concerned with.

He has also thanked the parents and guardians for their hard work and the sacrifices that they have made.

Turaqa says being a parent, he understands the challenges that come with being a parent, especially in today’s day and age and has commended them for all that they do for their children.

He is also reminding parents and guardians to take the time to sit with their children and discuss the events of their day, the lessons learnt in school and some hardships that they may be facing, and has assured them that the attention that they pay their children will leave a long lasting impression on them.
