Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua

The Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua has urged the Fiji Police Force to strive for fair representation of all communities, especially our Indo-Fijian brothers and sisters as they have witnessed an imbalance, with too many i-Taukei in the Force.

While speaking at the pass-out parade of 217 officers at the Nasova Grounds, Tikoduadua says it is vital that every segment of our society sees themselves represented in those who protect and serve them.

He says this principle of representation should be a guiding policy not only for the Force but also for the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

He adds that it is time this is addressed and ensure that the security forces mirror the diversity of the nation.

The Minister also highlighted that gender equality within the Force is not just a goal but it is a necessity and women should constitute half of their service.

He says the inclusion of women in the security forces brings unique perspectives, skills, and strengths that are essential for the holistic protection and understanding of our communities.

He adds that it is their duty not just upholding the law; they are also supposed to be upholding the values of inclusivity, fairness, and equality.

Tikoduadua reminded the graduates that they are not just enforcers of the law but pillars of the community, exemplars of integrity, and the embodiment of the principles upon which our society is built.

He also told the recruits to wear their badge with pride, perform their duties with diligence, and uphold the values of justice, fairness, and compassion.

Out of the 217 cadets that passed out today, 46 were females and 10 were from the Tuvalu Police.
