Leadership Fiji Alumni and Maxumise Fiji Managing Director, Salote Uluinaceva says the term ‘breaking the glass ceiling’ is a real achievement for women.

While speaking during the Leadership Fiji 2024 launch and 2022 Fellows Induction at the Holiday Inn, Uluinaceva says women deal with these challenges by being confident in their own capabilities to successfully deliver on whatever comes their way.

She says it is true that women have to diligently work twice as hard as men to get recognized for their competencies and skills but in doing so, women are often perceived as too aggressive, or as a force of nature.

Uluinaceva says it becomes harder as women move up the ladder.

Leadership Fiji Chairman, William Parkinson says Leadership Fiji was in a challenging financial position two years ago and they were concerned about their future, but a year of freedom has made the difference and their finances are healthy.

Parkinson says they are now starting to actively look at their big dream, which is to open a Leadership Centre, and they will be able to make concrete steps towards delivering that in the next year or so.

He further says they have been running a lot of tailored leadership training programs where they delivered training to seven different organisations and 252 individuals outside of the core Leadership Fiji program last year.

Parkinson says this has also become an important source of revenue in support of their Leadership Fiji dream.

He says the next stage of that is to deliver an executive leadership teaching program for people who missed out on doing Leadership Fiji in their early leadership career, who are now in senior executive positions.

The Chairman says thanks to their experience with running tailored programs, they have figured out a way in which they can deliver something which will be aimed at senior executives, which they are looking at launching this year.

While acknowledging the 2022 fellows, Parkinson says in the first year of Leadership Fiji, they get the cohort together in an organized and disciplined manner and encourage them to carry out the first basics of leadership.

About 30 people from different backgrounds in the 2024 cohort will start their Leadership Fiji journey tomorrow.
