As the CWM Hospital Administration are conducting their second cleanup campaign tomorrow, the CWM Board of Visitors says the health of every Fijian is not the responsibility of one person, organisation, association or Ministry but the combined responsibility of us all.

CWM Board of Visitors Chair, Dr Esther Williams says the cleanup campaign will bring together members of the business community, local associations, employees and employers of some Suva City organisations, universities, secondary schools, youths, religious groups, civil society and interested individuals.

Tomorrows cleanup also coincides with the Methodist Church Hospital Week celebrations that ends on Sunday.

Dr Williams says the purpose of the Cleanup Day campaign is to raise awareness in the community of the importance of our hospitals and medical services to saving lives.

She says it is also to create, maintain and sustain a sound and clean working environment for quality health care delivery at CWM Hospital for patients and families while contributing towards effective health care services, improving patient-centred services as well as providing the community with some health education.

The Board Chair says there have been many challenges in the recent past on keeping the hospital clean and things are improving fast in many areas and the aim now is to instill in all of us living in Suva and throughout Fiji that the CWM Hospital, is our hospital and is our collective responsibility.

The cleanup is concentrated in the outside areas of the hospital mainly and areas where there are no patients which will involve cleaning the gardens, tidying up the grounds, wiping down the walls and windows, cleaning drains and water blasting some areas.

They will be painting some areas where necessary and small maintenance work.

Volunteers have been asked to dress appropriately with appropriate shoes and head cover.

While the Board of Visitors and Hospital will supply some equipment to aid in the work, volunteers have been asked to get their own garden tools such as spades, brooms and mops and other equipment where they can.

The cleanup campaign tomorrow is from 8am to 1pm.
