The Church is very concerned regarding drugs and we have a lot of literature aimed at youth making right choices.

Pacific Area Seventy Leader Elder Paul Whippy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints stated this when asked on what is the Church’s view on drugs and the youth.

Elder Whippy says just the other week here in Fiji they congregated over 800 youths for a five day conference, called ‘For the Strength of the Youth’ which was attended by youth from all over Fiji, Rotuma and some from Tuvalu.

He says it was a spiritual experience with a lot of activities to help these youth realise that the times they are living in was prophesied.

He says they teach them correct principles and let them govern themselves as a large percent of their time is with friends, not under the control of their parents or the church.

The Area Seventy Leader says they trust the youth as they have been given specific spiritual blessings to help them make choices to righteous living.

He says even though some may fall there is always a way back, and they encourage their parents not to give up hope.

Elder Whippy adds parents must take responsibility to love their kids even more when they are in situations that bring unhappiness, sometimes embarrassment to their families.
