Permanent Secretary for Immigration Yogesh Karan has confirmed that the 13 Fijians who are currently stuck in Afghanistan are safe and they are working to get them out of there as soon as possible.

Karan says 2 of them work for private contractors while 11 work for international organizations.

He says they have had a discussion with the Australian High Commission who have given their assurance that they will make every effort to include our people in the evacuation flight.

Karan says it is very difficult to contact them because we do not have a mission in Afghanistan and they are trying to contact them via New Delhi.

He adds they are also working with UN agencies and the Indian Government to get them out of there as quickly as possible.

Karan is also requesting anyone who has contacts with anyone in Afghanistan to let the Ministry know so they can note down their details.
