Termites have surpassed the red zone areas around Labasa and have started to enter Labasa Town, and authorities are working on the issue.

Labasa Town Council Special Administration Chair, Paul Jaduram is urging people to report any signs of termite activity in the town.

Jaduram says they need to tackle the issue as soon as possible before it goes to a larger scale and starts to affect local businesses and residents.

He further says termites before were in areas such as Bulileka, Vunivau and a few other areas outside Labasa Town.

The Special Administration Chair adds that they are also working with Biosecurity Authority of Fiji.

During fijivillage Straight Talk with Vijay Narayan, Chair of the Termite Taskforce Committee Sashi Kiran highlighted that termite infestation has become a major problem for the people of Fiji, revealing that the Asian subterranean termite species has spread around the country from Lautoka to Labasa.

Kiran said that they had set aside $3 million during their first national budget because they knew there was a termite problem.
