People need to comply with the tenancy agreements they have signed with the Public Rentals Board, and any breach of the conditions stated in the agreement will result in their eviction.

Minister for Local Government and Housing Maciu Nalumisa, highlighted this when he was asked about the Ministry’s assessment of the five families who had been evicted from the Public Rental Board flats due to their involvement in illegal activities, including drugs and violence within PRB estates.

He says the tenancy agreement clearly outlines all the terms and conditions for tenants living in PRB flats, and if they are not followed, the PRB has the right to terminate the agreement and relocate the evicted tenants.

He says those evicted tenants had not been complying with all the policies and if they had not been relocated it would have been unfair to other tenants living in those estates and flats, as they also deserve to live in a house without interference from social challenges brought on by certain tenants.

He says by evicting the families, the PRB will be able to deter other tenants from following in their footsteps and engaging in unlawful activities.
