Teenagers promote healthy eating with artwork in Vatuwaqa

To combat the increasing number of people being diagnosed with non-communicable diseases and promote healthy eating in the country, the US Embassy in Fiji has engaged in a “Promoting Healthy Eating Through Art” project.

The project is a Virtual Arts Envoy program for teenage artists in the country and is intended to promote local healthy eating as well as provide participants with an opportunity to learn art techniques, food preparation, dietary information and other cornerstones of wellness.

14 teenagers ranging from the ages of 12 to 17 years took time out from their weekends to paint the side of a shop at Fletcher Road, Vatuwaqa near the Wailea squatter community with their ideas on promoting healthy eating.

US Ambassador to Fiji Joseph Cella says our body is a temple and has to be taken care of and treasured.

He says this project is a small way of bringing some American style in trying to promote healthy living and also promoting local fruits and vegetables in the diet of people.
