Teachers have made a difference by transforming the lives of many students through the gift of knowledge.

This was highlighted by Fiji Teachers Registration Authority Chief Executive Officer Sangeeta Singh in a statement as she commended teachers on World Teachers Day.

Singh says the Fiji Teachers Registration Authority appreciate the hard work of the teachers during the academic year 2023 and today is the day they should be honoured for the noble task they do.

Singh says World Teachers Day is a day to commemorate them for their contribution to the education sector.

She says being the regulatory body in Fiji, they have been working very closely with teachers and the various stakeholders of the education fraternity and is committed to work with the Ministry of Education and relevant stakeholders to improve the quality of education in Fiji.

She further says that teachers will remain to be the elite professionals in transforming the young minds into a well-trained and productive human resource that will contribute towards the development of our nation.

Singh adds that according to UNESCO, with just over seven years to go before the 2030 deadline of the Sustainable Development Goals, the 2023 edition of World Teachers’ Day will be the occasion to address the issue of teacher shortages.

The theme for this year is "The Teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the Teacher shortage" is an apt one and suits our current situation in Fiji.
