Education Minister Premila Kumar says when students returned to school, teachers were given a set of questions that they could use to gauge the learning gaps.

While responding to SODELPA MP Ro Teimumu Kepa question in parliament last week about the amended curriculum to ensure that students do not lose out in achieving the minimum standards to advance further, Kumar says using this, teachers were able to understand the learning gaps and have designed lessons to cover these gaps.

Kumar further says majority of the teachers received completed worksheets on a regular basis, so teachers were aware of the learning taking place.

The Minister further says the decision to have an extra term was to allow time for catch up and undertake revision before students progress to the next level.

Kumar adds they have appointed a Manager for E-learning.

She also says they have also been talking to the 3 universities to provide extra support to their first year students adding that all have agreed.
