Fiji Revenue and Customs Service CEO, Mark Dixon

There is one thing that did not stop during COVID and that is transnational crime, and this remains a significant issue for Fiji because of our geographical location in the world.

Fiji Revenue and Customs Service CEO Mark Dixon stated this when questioned on the transit of drugs through Fiji, and says it is a constant issue for them.

Dixon adds that the way they are targeting criminal groups has to be intelligence-driven as it is a slightly different skill set going forward.

He says they are working very closely with their coalition partners who are the New Zealand and Australian Customs, Fiji Police Force, and other government agencies so that they can take an intelligence-driven approach to target likely sources and likely shipments coming through our airports and ports.

The CEO further says it is a constant battle but it is very important that they maintain the capability to smartly intercept likely cargo that they suspect have drugs in them.

He says most of that is done with their US, Australian and New Zealand partners and together intelligence will help direct their resources where they are needed.
