Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Lynda Tabuya is urging women to get screened for cervical cancer as it is the number one cause of death of Fijian women due to cancer.

Tabuya highlighted this during her visit to the Free Cervical Cancer Screening and awareness held at the Nausori Market.

She says cervical cancer is one of the curable forms of cancer, if detected early.

The Ministry with the REACH team has partnered with the Ministry of Health and the Fiji Cancer Society to bring free cervical cancer screening closer to the women and girls.

Tabuya says there are plans in place for the REACH team to move around the main centres across Fiji while they will be in the Lomaiviti Group from next week covering the islands of Gau, Batiki and Nairai.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Cancer Society will be provide cancer education and screening programs at the Waiyevo Hospital on Saturday.
