Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Lynda Tabuya has acknowledged the work carried out by the staff of her Ministry at the district level and has stressed the need for efficiency and compassion when dealing with people.

She has highlighted this during her visit to the Department of Women and Department of Social Welfare Office in Nausori and Nasinu where she was accompanied by the Director Women, Director Social Welfare and the Executive Support Unit Official.

While speaking to the staff, Tabuya says she and Assistant Minister Sashi Kiran will be supporting the work they have been doing and have an open door policy.

She says the staff have been serving more than seventy percent of the population of this country and has thanked them for their hard work and commitment.

The Minister adds they have been working around the clock to provide love, care and support to children, women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens and the vulnerable in the society.

She adds their stakeholder, Westpac Bank Nausori Branch want her to commend the Social Welfare team in Nausori.

Tabuya says the team usually takes an extra mile to accompany the Social Welfare recipients to Westpac Bank to open their new bank accounts and make sure that their allowances get paid.

She says they are unsung heroes and the Government appreciates the work that they have been doing.

Tabuya further says she is new to the Ministry but not to the work that they do as it is something that she has been doing the past years - being part of the social work in her community.

The Minister also held discussions on the way forward in improving services delivery and the new government policies and initiatives.

She also conveyed Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka's best wishes to the staff of the Ministry.
