The Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya received a courtesy visit from the Delegation of the European Union Pacific office, including its Ambassador, Barbara Plinkert to address matters of mutual interest.

Tabuya says she is thankful for the invaluable support received from the European Union towards the work undertaken by the Ministry, to advance progress in the achievement of SDG 5 Gender Equality in Fiji.

The meeting was held at the Ministry’s headquarters, and highlighted various interests shared between the European Union and the Ministry under the 4 priority areas of human rights and gender, economic development, climate change, and human development.

Plinkert briefed Tabuya of her areas of responsibility in the Pacific region which encompasses 13 Pacific Island countries, also stating that her priority during her tenure is to strengthen all dimensions of the multifaceted relationship between the European Union and the Pacific.

Furthermore, both parties engaged in bilateral discussions, particularly, on work being undertaken to address gender-based violence, improving the participation of women in politics and leadership, and Fiji’s National Action Plan.

Also present at the meeting were Program Manager Civil Society, Gender, Human Rights and Health Francesco Ponzini and Political Officer Press and Information Madeleine Kihlberg.
