Please do not forget the Pacific region as we have endless sunshine and our goals for renewable energy are achievable, especially when investing in the human resources of women for lasting impacts.

This was the plea of the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya while attending the International Solar Alliance meeting hosted by the Minister for Power, New and Renewable Energy of India and President of ISA Raj K Singh.

The meeting by the ISA was attended by Africa, the Gulf Region, Europe, India, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multinational Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) and Spowdi (a company specialising in solar-powered drip irrigation systems for smallholder farmers).

Following a presentation by ISA of the Global Solar Facility to enable and invest in Solar, Tabuya appealed to a panel of experts and financiers in the renewable energy space to prioritise women as the human resource to ensure sustainable projects in our communities.

In October 2022 the ISA Assembly approved the creation of a Global Solar Facility to be piloted in Africa which was announced in Cop 27.

In a statement, the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection is exploring the possibility of ISA as a partner in the training of women solar engineers in rural and maritime communities in Fiji.

The meeting was chaired by the State Minister for Power and Energy of Bangladesh, Nasrul Hamid.

ISA will roll out in Latin and South America next.
