Pacific sprint king Banuve Tabakaucoro who is representing Team Fiji in the 100 metres event has resumed his training for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.

An update from Team Fiji highlighted that he rested on Friday due to the long travels and began training on Saturday.

Tabakaucoro says they are happy and safe in Oita, with good accommodation and the hotel staff have been helpful in preparing all arrangements for training.

Tabakaucoro is Fiji’s highest ranked athlete on the World Athletics Ranking table and he qualified by Universality Placement.

According to World Athletics, Universality places are reserved for National Olympics Committee with no athletes who have achieved an Olympic Qualifying Time or Olympic Selection Time.

Tabakaucoro had failed to meet the Olympic qualifying time of 10.05 seconds despite finishing first in the National Easter Championship 100 metres open final at the ANZ Stadium in April.

He ran a time of 10.79 seconds.

The Athletics competition begins on the 30th of this month.
