TSLS clarifies they never had a system where Govt was required to provide employment to Toppers graduates

The Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Service has clarified that they never had a system where the Government was required to provide employment to National Toppers students after they complete their studies.

This comes after some Toppers students contacted fijivillage and enquired if they will be provided employment by government as they have now graduated.

One student says she completed her studies last year and is struggling to find a job which is in line with the program she graduated in.

When questioned, TSLS says providing jobs for Toppers graduates was never documented and students after graduating can either work for government, statutory body, public corporation, a private Company or any other institution within Fiji.

They have also clarified that it has always been the practice for scholarship students to be bonded and graduates are required to serve their bond by working in the country as per terms and conditions of the signed bond agreement.

TSLS says the National Toppers Scholarship students are bonded for 1.5 times the years of study period.

For example, a student with a study period of 3 years is required to work or serve in Fiji for 4 and a half years.

TSLS says this formula remains unchanged to all the scholarship bonded students.
