Suva Taxi Association reminds drivers to behave when providing taxi services to passengers

The Suva Taxi Association is reminding taxi drivers to behave when dealing with passengers at all times after a video went viral on social media where a driver is seen chasing a woman and throwing items at her.

They are also calling on the LTA to investigate the matter.

The victim, Valentine Waqa, says a weekend ago, she and her friends were picked up from the University of the South Pacific around 10.30pm and they had informed the driver to drop off a female friend first in Tacirua, then her male friend to be dropped in Cunningham.

Waqa says on their way, the driver asked to fuel up his taxi at the Bailey Bridge Service Station, and that is when he changed his mind and told them that he would drop the male friend first in Cunningham and then Tacirua, with the excuse that he lives in Valelevu and it would be easier for him.

She says they told the driver they would pay him for the service and that he should not dictate the drop-off point.

She further says the driver then got aggressive and told them to get off and pay for the fare.

She adds when she got off to take a picture of the vehicle, the driver started chasing her and attempted to throw things at her.

Suva Taxi Association President, Ratnash Narayan is urging drivers to follow the Public Service Vehicle ethics and is also requesting the enforcement team from LTA to investigate the matter.

We have also sent questions to the Police, and they are looking into the matter.
