Restaurants and local businesses are urged to comply with the Food Safety Act 2023 in their daily operations as certain restaurants in the city were found to be operating under unsanitary and unhygienic conditions during food preparations.

The Suva City Council says they are strictly monitoring all businesses to uphold the act.

The Council says non-compliance with this Act will prompt the Council to issue an order of cessation of operations to the establishments involved.

In emphasizing the gravity of adhering to food safety regulations, Suva City Council Acting CEO Tevita Boseiwaqa stressed such measures are crucial for ensuring that food is prepared and served under hygienic conditions, thereby safeguarding consumer health.

Boseiwaqa reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to vigilant monitoring of food establishments, promising to enforce necessary actions against any violations.

He says he is deeply concerned by the blatant disregard for public health and food safety standards exhibited by these establishments and they will not accommodate such negligence in food preparation. Boseiwaqa says their priority is the well-being of the community, and they will enforce strict compliance with food safety regulations to ensure the highest standards of hygiene are maintained.
