Major supermarkets have a short supply of sugar and are now awaiting delivery.

MH Superfresh has told us they do not have sugar on the shelves from last week.

Kundan Singh Supermarket is also facing a similar situation.

Extra Supermarket has told us they have a limited supply of sugar and are urging customers to refrain from panic buying.

Shop N Save says they also have limited sugar and will be getting new stock soon.

Nausori based Pak N Save's Director Prashil Verma says their stock is also running out and are trying to arrange trucks to get sugar from Lautoka.

He says they are trying to deal with logistical issues during this time.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Sugar Corporation says in order to meet increased customer demand for sugar caused by panic buying, they are now selling 25kg bagged sugar from Labasa.

Chief Information and Commercial Officer, Sachin Deo says supermarkets can buy sugar from their Sales Office in Lautoka and Labasa.

He says supermarkets can liaise directly with them if their stocks are running out.

He says they also supply 2kg and 4kg retail packs to supermarkets, however the FSC has halted 1kg operation due to the low production rate.

Deo says 2kg and 4kg production rate is higher than 1kg.

Deo adds with this increased customer demand, FSC has decided to only pack 2kg and 4kg sugar for now and recommence packing 1kg sugar when the situation normalises.
