The Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific will crown the competition’s most outstanding player this season, with the presentation of the inaugural Player of the Year Award.

The introduction of the award this year comes on the back of strong fan feedback that the competition’s best performers deserve more formal recognition.

Super Rugby Pacific CEO Jack Mesley says the award will serve to highlight the game’s greatest players while also giving fans another opportunity to connect with the competition.

He says while the excellence of their athletes has always been recognised by the respective national unions, there has never been a competition-led awards program.

Mesley says this year, they take a significant first step towards that goal with the introduction of the Super Rugby Pacific Player of the Year Award for 2025.

He adds with the votes published on Super Rugby Pacific channels after every round, they look forward to engaging with their fans as the leaderboard evolves through the season and seeing the robust discussions it will no doubt generate.

Immediately following each game of the Super Rugby Pacific regular season, captains and head coaches from both sides will each nominate their top three players from the opposing team, allocating 3 votes, 2 votes and 1 vote, respectively.

The total votes from each game and an updated leaderboard will be published on the Super Rugby Pacific website and social media channels every Tuesday during the season.

The player with the most votes at the end of the regular season will be crowned the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific Player of the Year.

The 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season kicks off next Friday, with the Crusaders taking on the Hurricanes at 6.05pm, followed by the Waratahs meeting the Highlanders at 8.35pm.

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will host the Brumbies at 3.35pm at the HFC Bank Stadium next Saturday, followed by the Blues taking on the Chiefs at 6.05pm, and Round 1 closes off with the Force facing Moana Pasifika at 8.35pm.
