USP Chancellor and Nauru President Lionel Aingimea [PC: Nauru Government]

USP Chancellor and Nauru President Lionel Aingimea says the sub-committee looking into the issues surrounding the contract of USP Vice Chancellor Pro Pal Ahluwalia will make its recommendations shortly.

Aingimea says he has been entrusted by the USP Council to chair the sub-committee that will make the recommendations to the Council about Professor Ahluwalia’s role from one of USP’s other member countries.

He says as the Chancellor of USP, he continues to be most concerned about the events that led to the deportation of Professor Ahluwalia and his wife from Fiji on the 4th of this month.

Aingimea says he is also concerned that such treatment to USP staff should not happen again.

He says USP expatriate staff need to be assured they have security of tenure.

The President of Nauru says this is the way to secure and retain excellent staff both from within and outside the region.

He says allowing USP staff to operate across member countries will support their job security and enhance the academic reputation of USP.

Professor Ahluwalia has confirmed that he is now in Nauru with his wife at the invitation of the President Aingimea.
